Introduction
Vaccine hesitancy has been a growing concern, especially with the spread of misinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic. A recent study by Phreesia suggests that delivering vaccine messages at the point of care can significantly boost vaccination rates.
Phreesia, a company specializing in patient engagement software, conducted a study from March 2020 to May 2024, assessing the impact of providing vaccine information to patients just before their appointments. The study revealed that individuals exposed to these messages received vaccinations at more than double the rate of those in the control group who did not see the information.
Key findings from the study include:
- Approximately half of the patients reported that the information presented was new to them.
- Almost two-thirds of the patients indicated they were likely to discuss vaccines with their doctor.
These findings highlight the importance of timely and accessible information in promoting vaccine confidence. According to Christina Suh, M.D., director of clinical content at Phreesia, accurate, tailored, and easy-to-understand reminders can greatly support immunization efforts. Reinforcing the safety and efficacy of vaccines just before a patient consults their doctor can lead to more people getting vaccinated, protecting against preventable diseases and saving lives.
With vaccine confidence declining in recent years, innovative approaches like point-of-care messaging are crucial. As Thomas Triomphe, executive vice president of vaccines at Sanofi, noted, increasing vaccine uptake could significantly boost sales in both mature and emerging markets.
